union san pedro
In Oaxaca, Mexico, coffee farming faces immense challenges. Poverty affects up to 80% of the population, and with yields dropping by 90% in the past decade most farmers produce just 100kg annually—not enough to make a living.
Union San Pedro is combatting this inequality and revitalising coffee farming through fair pricing, alternative crops, and youth employment programs. These efforts stabilise incomes, combat urban migration, and increase earnings by up to 10 times compared to local market sales.
As well as creating sustainable livelihoods, this unique coffee collective is also preserving the famed Pluma Hidalgo variety, securing a brighter future for coffee producers in Oaxaca.
The final cup is as interesting as the story behind it. Expect notes of medjool, red apple, and toffee.
